Tri-County Alliance for Public Education Announces New Executive Director
Lansing – The Tri-County Alliance for Public Education (TCA) announced today that Robert McCann has been named as the organizations’ new Executive Director. Robert comes to TCA with years of experience in communications, government relations and policy development in Lansing, working in roles both in and alongside state government.
“I’m excited to be joining TCA and working with this group of dedicated school professionals as they lead the way in advocating for Michigan’s students,” said McCann. “We need our leaders in Lansing to listen to those inside the classrooms and better understand the tools and the resources that are necessary to provide our kids with the education they all deserve. I’m confident that TCA will be at the forefront of that effort.”
The Tri-County Alliance for Public Education is a coalition of education leaders committed to fighting for strong K-12 schools in Michigan. The organization works hand in hand with education leaders across the state to ensure all Michigan children have access to a quality public education. Most recently, TCA has played a large role in the development of the School Finance Research Collaborative, a project designed to rethink how K-12 schools are funded throughout Michigan.
“This is a critically important time for schools across Michigan as we work to end the one-size-fits-all model of school funding and refocus Lansing’s attention on the true needs of each and every student,” said Dr. George Heitsch, TCA Board President and Superintendent of Farmington Public Schools. “I’m happy to have Bob join TCA and I’m looking forward to seeing the organization’s success going forward as a strong voice for our schools and our kids.”
Prior to joining TCA, Robert served as Communications Director and Chief of Staff for the Michigan Senate Democrats under its former leader Gretchen Whitmer, as well as Press Secretary for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality under Governor Jennifer Granholm. More recently he has operated his own consulting firm in Lansing where he has helped clients navigate a variety of legislative and public relations issues.
The Tri-County Alliance for Public Education is a coalition of education leaders committed to fighting for strong K-12 schools across Michigan. Comprised of Superintendents from every district in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, they are collectively responsible for educating over 500,000 students (over 30 percent of the statewide K-12 population).
